Little Ochie Seafood Restaurant: Hooked on the Authentic Flavas!
They’ve got me hooked, line, and sinker! Waves crashing on rocks, bright blue skies, sun-kissed landscape, and a kaleidoscope of colors greet the eyes - tranquility at its best. The sights and sounds, and the aroma of the island spices on smoked charcoal provide a beautiful atmosphere for outdoor dining. Get away from the hustle and bustle of city life and head on down to The Lil Ochie Seafood Restaurant- a precious rustic gem located in the seaside community of Alligator Pond, Manchester.
Boat-like Seating |
Skillfully crafted thatch-covered boat-like structures provide enough shade and seating for you to admire the spectacular panoramic beauty of God’s creation while being caressed by the sea breeze. The warmth of the sand beneath your feet is like a bribe for you to take a dip in the sea before you eat your meal. Don’t rush! there will be plenty of time to get your feet wet.
Decorative Photo Wall with Owner, Mr. Blackie |
Head on over to the deep freezer to select your fish of choice, after it’s weighed and paid for, it's then taken to be prepared by the chef, if you are lucky, then the owner and head chef Mr. Blackie, himself will prepare your meal. Along with the fish of your choice, you have the option to choose how you want it to be prepared, as well as what side order you would like. A fish tea to whet the appetite, who would say no to that? while you wait sounds of music, laughter, and chatter fill the air, adding more comradery to the ambiance. Boy! Am I drooling at this point? , as I eagerly wait as Jamaicans would call it “For the boat to land” aka “for the food to be prepared”.
Tasty Escovitch Fish |
It finally arrives, and we open our beautifully wrapped dishes like excited children about to open their Christmas gifts. The aroma of vinegar-marinated onions, bell peppers, and pimento glazed over my Escovitch fish left us mesmerized. Mama Mia! How does chef Blackie make seafood so delicious? We have yet to learn. A pandora's box of flavors- the tanginess of vinegared spices, fiery scotch bonnet peppers, and vegetables on the Escovitch fish paired with the sweet-savory taste of the festival gives the contrast of flavors-Excitement galore, Fiesta, Fiesta! The chef never missed a beat.
An assortment of Fried Festival and Bammies |
With over 75 recipes to prepare seafood, Who says we can’t experience a little heaven here on earth? I beg to differ, as The Little Ochie Seafood Restaurant offers that unforgettable experience. Not quite the seafood enthusiast, they have an Ice-Cream and Snack Bar that serves scrumptious meals such as Chicken and French fries, sandwiches, hotdogs, cakes, and a variety of ice creams. Want to grab memorabilia? There’s also a souvenir shop.
Lil Ochie Snack Bar |
For some really deliciously authentic Jamaican cuisine and vibes. There are no ifs, no buts, and no maybes. Little Ochie is a crowd favourite and will definitely give you an experience of a lifetime. Even on a budget, this place is a wonderful spot to catch up with friends and family, host parties, or get some relaxation done. It's oh so FOODIELICIOUS! Looks like a place I would want to be right now
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteI’ve been a patron of Little Ochie since 1993 when it was just a little shack serving steamed or fried fish! It quickly became my favorite place to dine and I’ve introduced it to so many friends and family! I’m amazed at the growth and the wide menu options that are now available! The jerk fish, plantain and corn have become some of my faves! Though I’ve migrated over 20 years ago, whenever I visit Jamaica, I must visit to Little Ochie!

ReplyDeleteI’ve been going to Lil Ochie for many many years, they have certainly improved their offerings but I’m sure the taste remains remarkably. The Jerk fish is on my list of things to try next. Got my mouth watering just thinking about it. Excellent use of words- keep the momentum going girl ❤️

DeleteMy favorite chilling spot.
ReplyDeleteFrom a shack to a great establishment, a true rags to riches story. An oasis by the sea.
ReplyDeleteTrue! Thank you
DeleteWe had our Manchester High School Class of 2006 Reunion there. It was a large group of us, and everyone got what they ordered. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Was a memorable experience.
ReplyDeleteI had the privilege of meeting the owner. After ordering I realized they didn't serve Rice and Peas. Because that's what I really wanted I asked Mr. Blackie and he sent a worker to buy the rice. Just so that I could have it. I love how he went above and beyond for me. Made my day and my meal was amazing. I left feeling satisfied.
ReplyDeleteWow! Interesting! Thank you for your input.
